How to add WHOIS protection to an existing domain

This article describes how to add WHOIS protection to a domain you have already purchased through the A2 Hosting Customer Portal.

If you are purchasing a new domain, you can add WHOIS protection when you place your order. For information about how to do this, please see this article.

Adding WHOIS protection to an existing domain

WHOIS privacy protection prevents your personal contact information from appearing in the domain's public record, which can help reduce the amount of unwanted e-mail (spam) sent to your domain.

You may have already purchased a domain through the A2 Hosting Customer Portal, but did not add WHOIS protection to your order. To add WHOIS protection to an existing domain, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Customer Portal.
If you do not know how to log in to the Customer Portal, please see this article.
  2. On the Services menu, click ORDER NEW SERVICES:

Customer Portal - Services - Order new services

  3. In the Categories sidebar, click Support Requests.
  4. Under Support Requests, locate WHOIS Protection, and then click Order Now:

Customer Portal - Order new services - WHOIS protection

  5. On the Configure page, in the Domain Name list box, select the domain for which you want to add WHOIS protection.

The Customer Portal automatically calculates the pro-rated amount to charge based on how many months remain for the domain's registration.
  6. Click Continue. The Review & Checkout page appears.
  7. Click Checkout. The Checkout page appears.
  8. Under Payment Details, select the payment method that you want to use.
  9. Select the I have read and agree to the Terms of Service check box.
  10. Click Complete Order.
